Recovery After Hip Arthroscopy
Immediate Post-Op Care
- Use ice or your ice machine as instructed to reduce swelling and pain.
- Take pain medication as prescribed.
- Keep your incisions clean and dry for 48 hours.
- Use crutches or a walker as instructed, typically for 2-4 weeks.
- Wear your brace when walking for the first 4 weeks after surgery.
First Two Weeks
- Begin gentle exercises as instructed by Dr. Gombera.
- Start physical therapy 3-5 days after surgery.
- Attend your first post-op appointment 10-14 days after surgery.
- You may shower 48 hours after surgery, but do not soak the incision.
- Continue using crutches and wearing your brace as instructed.
Weeks 2-6
- Continue physical therapy as prescribed.
- Gradually increase weight-bearing as instructed by Dr. Gombera.
- You may return to desk work or light duty after 1-2 weeks, if comfortable.
- Continue wearing your brace for 4 weeks when walking.
Long-Term Recovery
- Full recovery can take 3-6 months, depending on your specific procedure and condition.
- Continue follow-up appointments with Dr. Gombera as scheduled.
- Return to sports and high-impact activities will be determined based on your progress.
